Introduction to Sports Massage

Course Code - SPO002
Course Duration - 2 days
Course Cost - £105.00

SPORTS MASSAGE uses techniques that are similar to Swedish and deep tissue massage, but are specially adapted to deal with the effects of athletic performance on the body and the needs of athletes regarding training, performance and recovery from injury.  Sports massage was used in various forms by ancient Egyptian, Chinese and Greek civilisations, in fact Hippocrates of whom it has been said was called the father of medicine, noted the benefits of "rubbing" on the human body in 460BC.  However it wasn't until the early 1900s that the beginnings of the modern sports massage techniques were developed.

On this course you will cover the fundamental principles of sports massage and practice the most commonly used techniques.  We shall look at treating soft tissue injuries and postural conditions and we aim to develop a strong awareness of body tissues, anatomical structures and soft tissue healing methods.

This is a practical course on how and when to use a wide variety of sports massage techniques.
